Put the drain stopper into place push the pop up stopper down into the drain opening inside the sink making sure the hole in the linkage is facing toward the back of the sink.

Pull the washer and gasket down then push up on the tail piece to loosen the seal inside the sink.
Then go back to the clip and squeeze the ends together.
Remove a sink pop up stopper the pop up stopper mechanism can become dislodged over time causing it to sit crookedly inside the sink drain.
If it doesn t turn use pliers to remove the nut.
Insert the pivot rod into the opening in the side of the tailpiece from under the sink.
Unthread the sink stopper s tailpipe from the underside of the drain.
Locate the nut on the sidewall of the drainpipe.
It may take some wiggling to extract the arm.
Carefully pull the drain stopper up from the drain opening and pull the entire rocker arm linkage from the drain opening.
Beneath the sink use your hand or a pipe wrench to unscrew the connection where the tailpiece enters the drain.
Now that the bottom of the tailpipe if free from the p trap loosen the nut that connects it to the threaded bottom of the sink drain.
To get a good idea of the situation you should ideally just remove the pop up stopper and go from there.
Reach up with your hand to see if you can remove it by hand.
This rod pushes the stopper up or lets it drop down into the drain body.
Usually there is a plastic washer on each side of the plastic ball.
Use the channel lock pliers to unscrew the large nut at the bottom of the sink.
Most sink stopper tailpipes are made of pvc and will be connected to the drain with a pvc compression nut that you can loosen by hand.
Normally all this requires is tinkering around with a few of the parts underneath the sink.
